Licences: Offices extend hours

Johannesburg - Testing stations throughout Gauteng will extend their hours to accommodate the thousands of applicants for credit-card licences that come into force on Friday at midnight.
Metro police deputy director Conel McKay said on Wednesday: "Testing stations will open their doors at 6am and remain open until 8pm from Wednesday until Friday.
"We are looking at the possibility of remaining open until midnight on Friday."
The national transport ministry has set midnight on Friday as the final deadline for motorists to get the credit-card licences or face driver re-testing.
McKay said: "It seems increasingly unlikely the deadline will be met by everyone - even though people have had five years to apply for these new licences, there are still about a million people who won't make the deadline - we will have to think seriously about this."
