Johannesburg – Four accidents over the last 24 hours brought the Easter death toll on Limpopo’s roads to 35, the provincial transport department said on Sunday.

This is compared to 41 at the same time last year.

"We have arrested nine drivers in the Capricorn District for driving under the influence of alcohol,” spokesperson Kagiso Mootane added.

A man is under police supervision after his vehicle collided with another, killing the driver, while he was allegedly drunk.

“The drunk driver was admitted to hospital and is under the supervision of police and will be charged with drunk driving and culpable homicide,” she said.

Mootane said two drivers died in two separate incidents in the Mopani District when they were speeding, lost control and overturned.

Another driver suffered a similar fate in another part of Limpopo. Further details on the accident were not immediately available.
