Cape Town - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned a University of Limpopo decision to postpone the institution's Student Representatives Council (SRC) elections.

Elections were postponed from Thursday to Monday due to disruptions at voting stations.

Blaming the ruling party, EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseli Ndlozi said the elections were postponed because the South African Student's Congress (Sasco) were facing a losing battle.

"They want to give the [African National Congress] leaders a chance to come back from their national general council to campaign for Sasco on Monday," he said on Friday.

Last year the EFF won the elections at the University's Turfloop campus.

"The EFF is not afraid. We shall win on Monday, because the student body believes in us. The EFF is here to stay and in UNILIM it remains the people's choice," Ndlozi said.

The university said the elections were stopped due to "acts of criminality and violence".

"Security at the polling stations has been beefed up with immediate effect until the entire process is concluded.

"We call on all students to demonstrate and exercise electoral maturity throughout this process," vice-chancellor Prof Mahlo Mokgalong said.
