Johannesburg - The case of a Limpopo policeman accused of rape and corruption was postponed in the Seshego Magistrate's Court on Monday, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said.

The matter was postponed to 6 June for further investigation, spokesperson Moses Dlamini said.

The policeman, who cannot be named until he has pleaded to the charges against him, was arrested on 21 February.

He is accused of raping a 26-year-old woman at his home in Seshego Zone 5 on 1 February.

The policeman is believed to also be a pastor in the Zion Christian Church who helped people with various problems.

The woman went to his house to seek help for a personal problem, but the man allegedly ordered her to have sex with him on the pretext that this was part of a ritual to cleanse her of bad luck.

The policeman then allegedly raped her.

Later he allegedly offered his commanding officer, who found out about the rape allegation, a R3 000 bribe to not report the matter to the IPID, Dlamini said previously.

"It is also alleged that the suspect offered the victim R50 000 to withdraw the case."

At the policeman's last court appearance on 24 February, he was granted R2 000 bail.
