Polokwane - A Limpopo man and his wife have been arrested in
connection with the rape of a 12-year-old child in Mashishimale village,
Namakgale, Limpopo police said.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said police were alerted by the
child's teacher on Tuesday. The girl was taken to a hospital were the rape was
confirmed.
"The teacher was concerned about her behaviour when she
called her aside," said Mulaudzi.
Police went to the couple's home and arrested the girl's
36-year-old stepfather. Her 29-year-old mother was also taken into custody.
"That woman confirmed to us that she knows about the
rape," he said.
The man had allegedly been raping the child since 2011.
The social development department was counselling the child,
who was staying with a relative.
Mulaudzi said the man would appear in the Namakgale
Magistrate's Court on Thursday on a charge of rape.
His wife would appear for alleged negligence.
