Limpopo farmer fights back

2011-10-02 14:33

Johannesburg - A farmer shot and killed a man trying to rob him of copper cables in Trichardtsdal in the Maake area, Limpopo police said on Sunday.

Five men entered his farm around 13:00 on Saturday and struck him on the head with a panga, lieutenant colonel Mohale Ramatseba said.

He managed to draw his gun and fire several shots at the intruders. A 30-year-old died on the scene after he was shot. His accomplices ran away without taking anything.

The farmer was admitted to hospital with a minor wound. An inquest docket was opened. The four men were still at large.

criminals that kill farmers or anyone else for the matter must be executed in an open public place. They are so disgusting and cowardly. Normal morals should not apply to them as they are animals. Pure and simple.

      Civil_Rights - 2011-10-02 15:03

Arthur if someone robbed your home and during that process would you let the animals get away with it while you have a gun in your possession. This is just an example.Ponder on that before commenting further

Arthur I agree with you on that one, some people dont understand your remark. He will have a lot of explaining to do and that is fact!!! This man deserves a medal, pity the others got away

5 against one is their usual cowardly approach. Good luck to capturing the other 4. Farm crime should carry very heavy sentences.

  • Juliana - 2011-10-02 14:57

This farmer should receive a reward! Well done!!

  • LGH - 2011-10-02 15:00

As soon as these thugs take out a weapon and try to rob or steal, they have given up their human rights. They all deserve a bullet! Well done!

      me - 2011-10-02 15:10

pitty only one got the just reward...the remaining 4 are out on the devil's parole. Hope they run out of luck on their next outing for these oxygenthieves deserve no less. 10 out of 10 for the farmer, may others have the same success and if "our" government knows what's good for then, don't piss us off by laying charges against the farmer for it's your out-of-control pigfaced Malema that is holding the devil's hand!

      OZNOB - 2011-10-02 15:32

I am happy the farmer killed the guy as he has just saved my taxes being spent on board and lodging in the local prison on some cowardly thief who is too lazy to work for a living

      me - 2011-10-02 16:00

@ Oznob, what are you talking about? These farm murderers don't go to prison for they are never caught and brought to book... But let an officer pull W.Mandela off for speeding, then we're talking!!! The ONLY justice served on these Malemapuppets is a bullet from the farmer, anything less is freedom by virtue of the ANCYL fight against the white thieves...

  • kseyffert - 2011-10-02 15:02

Live a life that disrepects the rights of others and earn your just rewards. There can be no rights without resposibilities.

      markings - 2011-10-02 15:35

Robbing and assaulting people to steal from them isn't a right. Seems that at least one robber earned his just reward. And it is the responsibility of the farmer to defend his life, one he lived up to very well.

  • thabatao - 2011-10-02 15:08

O shame, this farmer is going to be charged with murder, agrravated assault, racism, violating the 5 guys' human rights, premeditated murder and ten to one for stealing the guy's panga. Still, well done. Now we are not allowed to carry anything that can be dangerous. Pocket knives are out and so are bottles and handbags. ;-)

And the ANC govt. want to disarm the public? Give that man a Bells and a medal. Let's hope he hit some of the others in the process as well. My bet is that they would evetually have murdered him with a panga were he not armed. If all weapons are outlawed(like they want to) then only outlaws will have weapons. A really scarry situation. Mr. farmer you have just made my day.

  • OZNOB - 2011-10-02 15:27

I guess the robbers did not feel lucky yesterday - pity he did not shoot and kill more

  • Joe - 2011-10-02 15:28

I can't believe so many people want this man to have shot more of the intruders. He used minimum (but necessary) force. It's got to be minimum force, because the alternative boils down to civil war. I wonder how many whites would still be so gung-ho when the war comes to their house and it becomes a numbers game on how many family members they lose. And of course there will be a murder investigation. If the facts are as stated, the farmer will be found innocent by reason of self-defense. But without due process, all that remains is anarchy.

      RACINGCAT - 2011-10-02 15:32

Joe No we dont want to have to shoot these guys we just want them to have jobs and be good taxpayers....trouble is the people elected to organise this do not have the capability nor the will to do it.. After promises like for us and we will fix is arnt forth coming we have to do the job ourselves...

      kilo39 - 2011-10-02 19:16

@Joe..I am afraid that when one man is faced with five attackers, 'minimum force' must be the thing that is furthest from his mind otherwise he will be killed. Get real please, 'due process' is something that can only exist in a normal society and South Africa is far far removed from this status. When the ruling party goes to court to actively defend and promote the words of a song that has already been declared undesirable by said court, you must know that this is a very abnormal society. I smell your fear and might even understand that you think that being submissive to the criminals may save you and your family's lives in such a situation, but I think you are wrong. This defeatist attitude plays right into the hands of criminality and I for one urge more people to get more prepared to fight to the death against this evil, and reclaim your freedom.

      gatvol4corru - 2011-10-02 19:44

you are joking, right? The criminals do not play according to the same rules numnut!

      sefeddt - 2011-10-03 08:13

You missed the part about the other attackers getting away, they are now able to attack someone else, something they would not be able to do if they were shot as well.

      The Patriot - 2011-10-03 12:24

@Joe, commendable comment but we are at war. 15600 murders a year in SA. Afghanistan in the past 10 has only had 4500 fatalities from the coalition forces. Where do you live?

      victorp - 2011-10-03 15:09

Dear Joe, Did our friends in Benoni use minimum force on the 75 year old man, Get with it we are at war. Join a neighbourhood group to hear what is actually going on you will be shocked. Into action.

      Jason - 2012-02-02 12:18

  • Roy - 2011-10-02 15:29

A pity that the farmer did not shoot all the rubbish and rid the country of these useless b------s.

  • YES - 2011-10-02 15:32

I don't wish death or (armed) robbery on anybody. But he must count himself lucky to live to tell the story. Otherwise many before him are six feet down just for trying to be brave. As for morons who trivilise the story for their own racist interests, they must be talking from comfort of their homes probably surrounded by high walls with electric fences.

      Bushboy - 2011-10-03 09:15

Your comment implies that he should rather have complied with his attackers. Fighting back is not bravery, its survival. If he had complied, I assure you we would have read of another farmer murdered. This man realised he cannot rely on the state to protect him, and he could not rely on the mercy of robbers (this is foolishness of the highest order in any case as the robbers are showing thier lack of feeling by committing the crime in the first place)so he took steps and responsibility for his own security. He armed himself and defended himself when the need arose. PS to all the arm chair commandos that complain he didnt get them all, sadly bad guys dont usually stand still like the cardboard targets on the range. You try draw and shoot with a few unpleasant fellows trying to kill you at bad breath distance.

  • seshike mmoledi - 2011-10-02 15:39

Because our government does not want to protect hands that produces food for the country, then they should take law unto their hands and protect themselves. Well done that was a good job a mission accomplished very well, we can not because of some certain individuals wait to lose more farmers because the country already is in short of farmers. Let farmers be protected against criminals as they are busy destroying this country and SANDF reserve force can be used to make patrols in order to reduce and at the end stop those criminals as they will be bit by bit eradicate people producing food for us and at the end the whole country will suffer or even when farmers can leave this country or stop farming at all.

      leonard - 2011-10-02 16:36

      Jodida - 2011-10-02 18:40

Well said Seshike, but unfortunately our SANDF are useless and whilst three quarter of them are sitting doing nothing, being paid on a monthly basis and full of aids will never ever while the anc are in power help our farmers. They are way to busy looking forward to secure the next arms deal to fight who knows what with the multy billion rand war planes, ships etc. Why not spend R2000 on each farmer and supplying them with a gun to protect themselves, because no anc member would get a kickback from a farmer!!!

  • ttshabalala - 2011-10-02 15:39

Well done to the farmer! I'd do the same in that situation. Almost all the comments here prove one thing....all South Africans, regardless of skin colour are united on issues of crime. I find it amusing though, that there are still a few people still find a need to turn serious issues like this into some racial game. Comments like "Kill them, time to kill them all" are very loaded. It doesn't take a smart person to make up what this shameless racist is referring to. Anyway, these negative people are so in the minority. Come on all responsible, fellow SA's of all races, all who wish to see this country being a great place to live in. Now, you miserable morons who walk around trying to find every excuse to play race-game, gone are those days. The country is no longer divided along racial lines but class. Now, all smart, educated, responsible SA citizens with sound judgement, regardless of race, enjoy living together and sharing fruitful honest discussions. Irrelevant morons who are angry because they are still poor and miserable regardless of great opportunities that they were presented with in the past remain bitter and can't wait to let all of us peace loving folks how angry they are. Again, well done to the farmer who took it upon himself to protect himself and his family.

      leonard - 2011-10-02 16:44

@ttshabalala........Very nicely written piece.Only one error however. The country is VERY much divided along racial lines thanks to the ANC`s obsession with race.If they had the courage to dispense of the services of Manyi for example and offer all whites an equal place in the sun, what a wonderful future we could all have.

Here is you wake up call since you are still stuck in past. White and black people are going to live together in this new society in South Africa and comments like yours just give other racists like you further ammunition and so this will go on forever. And since you are speaking about victories, you better get off that crack pipe if you think there will be a race war in this country. Wake Up or get left behind and embarrass your grandchildren. I must say that it's good that good has overcome evil in this situation! And by good I don’t mean White!

More proof that our rulers will dismiss with disdain, that civilians need to be armed and trained. Moral of the story, in Africa crime rules. If laws need to be broken to protect innocent lives, so be it. Amen.

Good job! Well done, well done. As I type this, I carry a US Army .45 automatic pistol in an old World War II holster. At home or at work, all honest people need to be armed 24/7. Surprise is the thugs' only advantage... you need to surprise them first.

He who hesitates is lost, criminals have intent, so shoot first ask questions of the survivors.

Does Beke Cele believe " do not resist , call the police ? " would have saved the mans life ? He had to shoot because of the attack , so a legal firearm saved a life . The police statistics will only reflect a murder , not that the " victim " was a perpetrator .

Black or white, farmer or not...stop thinking in terms of race and colour. I am glad the farmer is okay and that he at least got one...Just a pity the others got away.....
