Polokwane - Police in Limpopo have warned motorists not to use the R555 road between Burgersfort and Eerste Geluk after protesting residents of Ga-Mampuru stopped a truck and set it alight on Monday morning.

Motorists have also been cautioned not to stop when flagged down by people hitch-hiking on the side of the road as protesters are believed to use this as a ploy to get passers-by to stop their vehicles.

“Travellers in that area are advised to avoid travelling on that road or to drive carefully,” said police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto.

She said public order police had been deployed to the area to monitor the situation.

Residents started blocking the road on Sunday evening, barricading it with burning tyres.

No arrests have yet been made.
