Thohoyandou - Limpopo police on Sunday were still searching for a 45-year-old man alleged to have beaten his two children to death.

The incident happened at Makonde village on Wednesday, said Colonel Ronel Otto.

"It is alleged that the man and his 33-year-old wife were involved in an argument... when she fled from the house. The man allegedly took a knobkerrie and assaulted his 2-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son so severely that they were declared dead on the scene," said Otto.

When the children's mother came back several hours later, she found her children dead.

Her husband was no where to be found.

"The woman was safe with her relatives," said Otto.

Once found, her husband would face two counts of murder.
