      npretorius2 - 2012-02-15 12:57

Great Idea!! instead of costing millions of tax money on prison, lawyers, food blah blah etc... let china foot the bill! Plus there will be no lame hippy human right activists that can stop it...

Great that he was found guilty and sentenced but how long is a life sentence in SA and how soon can one apply for parole?

      Lionel - 2012-02-15 12:57

Minimum of 20 years before he can apply for parole.

      tertia888 - 2012-02-15 13:07

As far as I know a life sentence in the New SA is only 18 years and they usually get out much earlier.

      Alexis - 2012-02-15 13:12

WELL IT WAS ''TECHNICALLY'' REDUCED TO 13YRS AND 4MONTHS A FEW WEEKS AGO. NOTE I SAID TECHNICALLY.

Thanks for your responses. I just tried to check online and could only easily access the info on Wikipedia so not sure how accurate it is. According to Wikipedia: In South Africa, a life sentence is mandatory for premeditated murder, gang rape, serial rape, rape where the rapist knew they were HIV positive, or if the victim was under 18 and/or mentally disabled. In certain circumstances, robberies and hijackings also carry a mandatory life sentence. But section 51 of the Criminal Procedure Act 1977[1] controls the minimum sentences for 'other' types of murders, rapes and robberies to 25, 15 and 10 years respectively, so parole is almost always granted to life sentences after the minimum sentence for the lesser crime has been served. However, a prisoner must be given a parole hearing after having served 25 years. In special cases, life imprisonment without any possibility of parole or pardon for an extensively long period of time (such as 1,000 years) can be imposed, such as in the case of serial killer Moses Sithole.

Depends on his health. If he develops a terminal disease, he will be given a medical parole, a farewell present of a set of golf clubs and life membership of the nearest club. His punishment will be having to play golf every day! That will teach him.

Interesting info on Wiki. I guess that in principle it might be correct but in practice I think we have a lot of examples that prove the info wrong.

  • Olivia - 2012-02-15 12:53

My guess he won't be serving life, will prob get parole sooner rather than later. Bring the rope back!

  • paul.coetzee1 - 2012-02-15 12:53

Good. And I hope he gets a taste of his own medicine while he is in the slammer

  • Tamaryn - 2012-02-15 12:53

About time too... not that I'm advocating the death sentence... but life imprisonment sounds reasonable... just need to add "with no possibility of bail. EVER." to it.

  • Khomotso Motso Makwela - 2012-02-15 12:55

Rape November, Jailed for Life February. Wonderfully quick turn arround and hope that this can serve as a deterrant to all criminals. REAL MEN DO NOT RAPE!! Hopefully we can see just as quick justice with all the other pending cases seen daily on this news site.

  • Michelle - 2012-02-15 13:03

Now is this life until he dies or life until the president of the day feels extremely generous and lets all the dangerous criminals back out onto the street to commit yet another horrific crime?

  • Jan Louw - 2012-02-15 13:04

Freedom Mohlobotho Moela has a very ironic name... I wonder if he change it to something more appropriate like Jailbird Mohlobotho Moela or Unhappiness Mohlobotho Moela lol

  • seanseabela - 2012-02-15 13:41

      elaine.bing - 2012-02-15 13:57

This does not refer to consensual sex - she was forced. That means rape. Age has absolutely nothing to do with it.

      Silvana - 2012-02-15 13:58

@seanseabela. Give me your address so I can bring you some toilet paper to wipe the s*!t that's coming from your mouth;. Who cares how old the woman is. She didn't want him that's why he used a knife. That's RAPE, whether you're 14 or 90 years old. You need to take a serious look at your attitude towards women. We are not your commodity, even if you pay lobola.

      Heiku - 2012-02-15 14:00

Investigate the woman for what? That's what the court is for. They didnt just take the woman's word for it. Everything is scrutinised in a court of law.

      desertratbkf - 2012-02-15 14:34

Guys......are any of you depressed? Go check out this sphincters (Seanseabla) profile on Facebook! Will cheer you up in no time!!!!!!! Bwahahaha.

  • Grant - 2012-02-15 14:07

Hang him high, save the tax payers money wasted on SCUM like this !!

      Charmaine - 2012-02-15 14:15

We should hang him by his Balls.

  • Charmaine - 2012-02-15 14:14

Good but he should be sjambokked as well in public. Prison is not enough, he is eating and drinking water and having a roof above his head at the expense of the rates and tax payers. This is not the Governments money.

      Sjee Sjee Isak - 2012-02-15 15:34

He's a monster and diserves to die.

  • trix.duvenage - 2012-02-16 08:20
