Limpopo thief dies inside burning shop

2012-04-07 18:23

Polokwane - A man died after he allegedly broke into a shop where a fire later started in Ga Dikgale on Saturday, Limpopo police said.

The man allegedly gained access to the shop by breaking a window so that he could steal groceries around 02:00, Constable Moses Molepo said.

"He ransacked the shop and was trapped inside by a fire. He died of smoke inhalation inside the store."

Molepo said the shop burnt to ashes.

The cause of the fire was not known.

The man had not yet been identified. An inquest docket had been opened for further investigations, Molepo said.

Damnit, I thought I told that guy not to use that muti in his store until I've figured out why it burns everything else down as well and fixed the problem. Atleast it works... =P

  • africanwolf - 2012-04-07 18:54

He probably started the fire to eliminate evidence, and eliminated himself in the process

  • justice.mpho1 - 2012-04-07 19:08

Justice has a way of limiting our reproductive situation...he certainly got eliminated,it is superfluous to spell it out!

RIP man, no one should ever die for what you died for (food) i probably would have done the same.

      Arp Liebenberg - 2012-04-07 20:03

He did NOT die for food but because of greed! he ransacked the place, and in the process made major mistakes that cost him his live

      Jim - 2012-04-07 20:10

The reporter stated that the shop was ransaked, there is no evidence of this and the facts are unknown. Perhaps the shop was ransaked...why not wait for the facts to emerge Arp??? Stop pre judging...

      arne.verhoef - 2012-04-08 22:27

But Ntobeng is 'pre-judging'(as you so eloquently state) Jim, so why the bias?

  • Jim - 2012-04-07 19:34

Not to justify crime but take a step back and reflect on this....Assume you are a parent with a baby/young child facing the worst due to starvation, would you stand idly by or would you do whatever it takes in order to feed your child.....I do not imply that this is always the case but sometimes it just may be so....

      Arp Liebenberg - 2012-04-07 20:01

You then take what you need, and you DO NOT ransack the shop, for that there is no excuse! Where there is a will there will be a solution that will not involve crime!

      Jim - 2012-04-07 20:05

Hey Arp, have you ever been destitute???

      Arp Liebenberg - 2012-04-07 20:07

Yes Jimmy many times! Always got out of it without crime!

      Jim - 2012-04-07 20:13

Arp I mean REALLY destitute, no way out...no education, no job nobody to turn too, at your absolute witts end.

      Fred - 2012-04-08 00:42

Jim, you are blowing bubbles. Stealing is a behavioural thing. And Arp is right, if you are only looking for food, you will not ransack the place. This criminal got more then he bargained for. At least he did not die of the cold, like so many real homeless people.

  • Bongani - 2012-04-07 19:51

This is crazy, where did this fire come from? I would have love to hear the whole story because it sounds so fascinating

  • Cassandra Olivier - 2012-04-07 20:18

I guise he got more then he bargained for

  • Neels - 2012-04-07 20:35

This guy stole because he was hungry, i don't justify that but how do you justify that R600 000 miljion dissapeared last year between the goverment, they who stole that money were greedy not hungry

      Jim - 2012-04-07 20:56

Corruption cannot be justified Neels, it criminal and the fact that so many corrupt Government officials are not held accountable and are unpunished is a total disgrace...the ANC government have a lot to answer for!!

      lee.strever - 2012-04-12 15:34

He did not steal because he was hungry,no sin goes unpunished,if u steal 5 cents or 5 rand it is still wrong!!Poverty is a choice!!Goverment is already burning if not literally, but the flames will get all the greedy people eventually
