Limpopo to sell overstocked medicine

2012-05-14 18:01

Johannesburg - The Limpopo health department is planning to sell oversupplied medicine to other provinces to ensure stock was used before it expired.

"We have more medicines of what we don’t need and less of what we need. We have got the warehouse that can supply the whole country," said department MEC Norman Mabasa on Monday.

"I will be making an announcement to other MECs that they must not waste money buying somewhere, they can buy from us. We can even give [to] them on discount."

The decision was taken following the department recording a R14m loss due to oversupplied medicines expiring within its warehouse.

The problem was exacerbated by a moratorium to stop the distribution of starvodine, used by people living with Aids, following advice it had negative side effects.

The department also intended distributing milk for babies through the Limpopo social development department.

Mabasa said the problem was discovered when the department took over warehousing in March.

Zimpopo drug dealers! A new low for the ANC. I LMAO.... However, this a prime example of ANC wasteful spending (with tax-payers money). The health MEC should be sacked!

And who will have oversight? Who will profit and how much will be thrown away?

Who made a profit with the original tender? Clearly it is inflated to start with!

This is a matter of overstocking as long as the money and the commissions goes to the right company. R14 million of medicine wasted!! Wonder who the shareholders are at the supplying company??? ANC fat cats????

Under the laws of natural justice, the Premier of this province should be in jail for dereliction of duty. How on earth is this catalogue of maladmin cases tolerable? Only yesterday we wanted Zille to go for that advert and publicity 'illegal' tender. Why is the Limpopo Premier not being recalled?

      Koos - 2012-05-15 07:36

Because he is black and a member of the most corrupt and incompetant political party.

We all know exactly how they will sell then. R1 over the counter and R50 kickback under the counter...

It is very surprise to learn that our province has overstocked medicine while many clinics do not even have a single panado. When people consult, they come back without medication as there is none. You can go to Shikundu clinic @ Thulamela now, you will be surprised.

      The ANC's fault!
