Long-distance trains running again

2011-07-28 12:14

Johannesburg - Long-distance train services have been restored following a suspension earlier this week because of heavy snowfall, the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) said on Thursday.

"All train services from Gauteng to Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal have been reinstated and will run as per the advertised schedules with effect from Thursday, 28 July 2011," said Prasa spokesperson Leonard Potgieter.

Earlier this week, snow fell in the Lesotho area, the Ukuhlamba Drakensberg area, the southern Free State, the Mpumalanga highveld and the Eastern Cape highground, causing many road closures and the suspension of long-distance train services.

oh thank goodness for that! otherwise our previously disadvantaged would have deemed this as a good enough reason to torch the carriages.
