Lotto prize of R25m this weekend

2012-01-27 21:43

Johannesburg - The lotto jackpot prize would be R25m this coming weekend, national lottery operator Gidani said on Friday.

"The aim of this is to ensure that lucky punters overcome their financial woes if they correctly match the six winning numbers on Saturday," spokesperson Thembi Tulwana said.

"January is the month associated with huge debts due to the massive spending during the preceding festive holidays. Winning this weekend's prize will therefore be an ideal way for the players to start the New Year," she said.

Tulwana said the lotto had turned more than 380 people into millionaires since 2007. The competition had also raised funds for good causes amounting to more than R6bn.

"We urge punters to check their old tickets again as prizes amounting to more than R25m are still to be claimed," Tulwana said.

"These winnings will be forfeited if ticket holders fail to claim them within the specified 365-day period."

The announcement of the R25m prize comes as protesters from several non-profit organisations were marching on the National Lotteries Board in Arcadia in Pretoria on Friday to hand over a memorandum protesting at the way the board allocated grants and what they say is its lack of transparency.

Notwithstanding that it's a near statistical impossibility, my bet is that there will be SIX winners for this draw.

The reason they make the jackpot so high is to attract millions of punters, people that cannot afford even the R20 they play, targeting these people because they know how gullible they are. When they say the jackpot is 20 million this weekend people rush to the lotto machines to play, standing in long lines to give their hard earned money to these thieves. Little do they realise that even winning 1 million would be the same as 20 million to them, so why rush to play when its hight payout your chances of winning are still 0.0000000000000000001 %

...and the lucky winner is...Chancellor House! No. The people of S.A. are getting suspicious. They are checking us. This weekend we will let someone else win. Just to show them we are transparent. To get them off our backs.

Here's What irks me ""January is the month associated with huge debts due to the massive spending during the preceding festive holidays. Winning this weekend's prize will therefore be an ideal way for the players to start the New Year," she said." Whether I win 25 million or 5 million either amount will pay my holiday over spend off quite easily.

how do you guarantee a win before a draw? Isn't a draw supposed to be live, or the draw has already been made? A selected person from a certain place has already won it before a draw, now thats daylight robbery from lotto.

      Obviously predrawn.

Everyone should boycott the lotto until the corruption has been exposed and those guilty prosecuted.

  • Butch - 2012-01-28 07:55

Statistically junk and impossible - how can anybody believe this rubbish - will go to some crony beneficiary again - one of the main scams.

  • Johan - 2012-01-28 08:25

I do not play the lotto because I suspect that this is as corrupt as so many other things in this poor country.

I will play the lottery the day I make those balls myself from scratch, and I'm the one who gets to take the balls out 1 by 1 every weekend (no machines), and I get to go with those balls home at the end of the night and they be touched by no one else. Whoever the winners will be, least I'll know that the process is not rigged.
