Johannesburg - Loved ones of Tessa Beetge arrived at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday morning to welcome the convicted drug mule home.

Beetge's flight was expected to land just after 07:00.

She spent five years in a Brazilian jail after she was caught smuggling cocaine into the country.

Her aunt Margie Olsen told Jacaranda News: “I’m so excited, I’m even shaking.”

Olsen told Sapa on Wednesday they were looking forward to being with Beetge again and reuniting her with her children.

"At last we can see Tessie coming home tomorrow [Thursday] and that's going to be a joyous occasion. She is going to be a little bit overwhelmed, very anxious to see her children," she said.

Beetge’s mother Marie Swanepoel died in an East London hospital in October after a short illness.

Beetge was recruited by Sheryl Cwele to smuggle cocaine from South America.

Cwele, the ex-wife of State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele, and her co-accused Frank Nabolisa were found guilty of drug dealing by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in May 2011.
