Lucky enjoys screwed diet

Virginia - Lucky the bull terrier has a mind of her own and will pull her nose up at a juicy piece of meat. Instead, a bolt, a nut, some rubber, a piece of rope or anything lying around her owner's car repair business is a tasty treat.
Lucky's owner, Johan Grobbelaar, said that a few years ago he picked up on his dog's antics when he noticed Lucky was not her usual happy self. Grobbelaar took Lucky to a vet who discovered the dog had eaten a few bolts.
She had the first of three operations to remove the foreign objects.
"It is the same story each time and each time it costs me at least R800. We have tried everything but Lucky enjoys eating strange things," he said.
Lucky, 6, got her name after being the only surviving puppy in a litter of nine. Her mother ate all the other puppies but Grobbelaar rescued Lucky and hand-raised her.
Her white coat is often covered in oil as she "works" alongside Grobbelaar on cars. But about a week ago it was time for the vet yet again. This time, rope and pieces of rubber were removed from Lucky's stomach. Her stitches are to be removed this week.
"The vet says he has never seen anything like this in his life before," said Grobbelaar adding that Lucky does not care much for meat and will only sniff at it. Her bowls of food and water are always full, as she prefers a diet of her own choice.
"I now have to put my tools out of her reach and we have to keep a close eye on her," said Grobbelaar.
