Cape Town - Metro police in Cape Town say they are monitoring Macassar following violent protests there on Tuesday.

Police have arrested at least 15 people for public violence, eNCA reporter Erin Bates tweeted.

Protesters were angry at the relocation of evicted Nomzamo residents to the area, Eyewitness News reported.

The locals feel that they should get first preference.

During the protest, residents burnt tyres and set fire to a municipal building.

This comes just two weeks after Blackheath residents protested the relocation of the Nomzamo evictees to their area.

Hundreds of people were evicted from land in Nomzamo that is owned by the SA National Roads Agency.
