Madiba’s dream on track thanks to donors

Cape Town - A spokesperson for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust has confirmed that donations have been pouring in from wealthy donors who want to fulfil Madiba’s dream of building a world-class paediatric hospital.

According to the Sunday Times, this comes after a two-year battle by the trust to raise money to build the R1bn facility in Johannesburg.

Vuyo Lutseke, the trust’s spokesperson, said Madiba’s death had prompted an “outpouring of support” by local and international donors and that R570m had already been collected.

He said construction would start this month on land donated to Mandela in 2009 by the University of the Witwatersrand.
