Magistrate sues over racism

2012-04-16 10:12
Johannesburg - A Klerksdorp magistrate is suing Justice Minister Jeff Radebe and the National Prosecuting Authority for alleged racism, according to a report on Monday.

Ravana Sewsunker Jacobs, who was a senior prosecutor at the time, alleged that she was repeatedly the victim of racial abuse and told that blacks were stupid and that "all Indians looked alike", The Times newspaper reported.

Jacobs maintains that the primary perpetrator was white public prosecutor Jacques Swanepoel.

Swanepoel was fired last year after a disciplinary hearing, four years after racism allegations were brought against him, the paper reported.

The NPA is yet to file responding papers.
