Malema facing imminent arrest - report

2012-09-18 08:17

Johannesburg - Ex-ANC Youth League President Julius Malema may be arrested before the end of the week by the Hawks.

Eyewitness News reported that the law enforcement body was close to completing an investigation into allegations of corruption against Malema.

The Hawks probed Malema’s Ratanang Family Trust, alleged tax irregularities and possible tender fraud.

It was alleged previously that Malema had about R15m in unpaid taxes owed by On-Point Engineering, a company partly owned by Malema’s family trust.

Malema has said he has done nothing wrong and will co-operate with any investigation into his finances.

The Hawks declined to comment on the report on Tuesday, according to Sapa.

"We are not going to comment," said Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela.

Throw away the key!!!!! Start greasing up fat gut!

      mark.singh.9889 - 2012-09-18 08:31

I doubt he will see prison. These corrupt cadres/politicians are so well connected, they are above the justice system.

      lorain.maseko - 2012-09-18 08:38

I'm so sick of this he's been facing imminent arrest from last year, please tell us when it actually happens. Every week it's the same story, they are close to completing an investigation.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-09-18 09:04

LOL he'll be arrested, then a few days later be put on house arrest. Then we'll hear about the parties he's having. Then we'll hear how he's allowed to attend a few functions, and there will be a few leaks that he was at a night club or two. Next thing you know, he's president.

      Michael - 2012-09-18 10:40

believe it when i see it. We've heard this all before

      Jane - 2012-09-18 11:03

Unfortunately, because this is South Africa, they will take another few months to actually arrest him, then the courts will take about 5 years to gather the evidence and witnesses together, and then by 2016 or 17, when he is finally convicted after the case being postpones 714 times and legal teams being changed 52 times, he will be released from prison. 2 weeks into his sentence, because he has suddenly developed a life threatening case of high blood pressure, he will be released to join the rest of the convicted ANC member who now spend their days languishing on the golf course and swopping their stories over a bottle of Scotch. Don’t hold your breath for his conviction, you might die from asphyxiation!

      ettienne.hattingh - 2012-09-18 15:17

He will fake a illness and get off.

  • martin.green.522 - 2012-09-18 08:22

Just one question. Is this the way to become president? How many of these charges will stick, and how much will be sweeped under the carpet?

      kala.bafazi - 2012-09-18 08:31

I remember similar accusations and charges being levelled at a certain Jacob Zuma.

      mfrater - 2012-09-18 08:51

Well, we've had 1 ex-con as prez, 1 corrupt and alleged rapist as prez, I'd say Ju Ju is still studying but almost qualified?

      riaan.steenkamp.58 - 2012-09-18 08:51

      That's three questions.

Even if Malema is arrested we know Lithuli House is behind this, hawks and police are used in a political battle to score some political points,if the hawks really have the Balls to fight crime or corruption, they should have done that with SHOWER-HEAD (Zuma) and cyril Ramaphosa,

      deon.louw.7505 - 2012-09-18 08:43

Okay Malema, quick now boy. Jump off from a 10 storey building, so that when you go to prison, you can apply for medical parole. Lmao. Our system is messed up.where The criminals get to go to an A class hospital/s. where as the ordinary citizen has to go to a Z. (z for Zuma). class state hospital!

  • mantothieve.missingman - 2012-09-18 08:38

Long overdue he should have been in jail already , Please put him in cells with the boeremag guys , sure they have a lot to talk about.

  • PrettyUsefulArt - 2012-09-18 08:38

I'll believe it when I see it. And even then, what are the chances of him being convicted? Slim to nothing if Zuma's history is anything to go by. Although, perhaps he's pee'd Zuma off enough to ensure something comes of it. One can but hope.

  • fdalana - 2012-09-18 08:39

    why only now?

  • tshepo.maganedisa - 2012-09-18 08:40

Like i said if they had a case against him by now he would have been behind bars, i bet you this week will pass too and instead the Hawks will try and press for incitment (in which it also doesnt stand) - you wanna bet?

  • steve.ritchie.739 - 2012-09-18 08:41

Fatboy is no stranger to this. He is certainly going to get some serious media attention, one way or another. Lets hope that this clown finally gets what is coming to him and that all those that he has fooled with his bullshyte, will finally see him for what he is.

  • deon.louw.7505 - 2012-09-18 08:46

Arrest Fatface for sedition. Then his chances of bail would be minimized.

it's political, Zuma is misusing his powers.

  • helmut.smrz - 2012-09-18 08:56

    To good to be true

  • JohannP - 2012-09-18 08:58

Big Mistake. Zuma allowed Malema to become what he is for Zuma's personal gain. Now that Malema is a threat to him, he is going to persecute him, and all that's going to achieve is make Malema an even bigger champion for the poor. Mugabe style law will not work on Malenma, because he is the one with the militant following. Very dangerous scemario.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-09-18 12:26

JohannP. I agree. This is a dangerous thing happening here. It smells of times gone by. He was never investigated by anyone until he became a threat to Zuma. This is a warning to those who are thinking of standing against Zuma in December. Since none seem to have no bones hiding in their closets, he may very well have no opponents and we wil be stuck with him for another four years of disaster.

      krish.reddy.104 - 2012-09-20 21:24

Ah please man he is gone forever.

  • leviy - 2012-09-18 08:58

corruption will never end in this country as long as we are governed by criminals...arrest zuma and all the anc officials,if all of them can investigated i bet well findd out more...but then the hawks are workin for zuma so he wont be investigated...bring back the scorpions.

Stop making Malema to be the bad person here this morning the police was over heard saying shoot him. Hawks need to be investigate the police and media too.

You right he isn't a bad person. But then again I'm an idiot like you.

  • ron.lawrance - 2012-09-18 09:04

So if you read next that the pending charges are dropped, it will confirm he has dirt on some shady top politicians. I think that is why it has taken so long to get to this point.

  • Tony.Montana.Moelenyane - 2012-09-18 09:10

Y Zuma himself wasn't arrested for corruption and clear rape????then juju is arrested for sayin the truth out loud,Zuma wil b followed by fools hu r busy against malema, while malema want what south africans deserve...\r\nWe will die for Malema !!!!!!!viva juju

      Jacques - 2012-09-18 09:13

Wasn't exactly 'clear' rape, was it? And by your logic, we should say 'because there's bound to be a killer on the loose somewhere, we should stop prosecuting murderers because of a set precedent'. I say charge and arrest both of them, but hey.

      brett.michielin - 2012-09-18 09:16

Please do us a favour and go die for Malema.

      keithpatkell - 2012-09-18 10:19

  • siyanda.yeni.5 - 2012-09-18 09:12

The HAWKS are to arrest Malema for inciting violence. The question is do they have enough evidence to sustain a conviction or it's just a ploy to please the politicos and/or the media!

      krish.reddy.104 - 2012-09-20 21:31
