Malema owes me money - gardener

2012-04-19 09:30

Johannesburg - Embattled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema's gardener claims he has not been paid for two months, and he is owed R1 200, according to a newspaper report on Thursday.

Joseph Mabuza, who works on Sundays for Malema, told The Star he had not been paid for February and March.

"I just wish Julius pays me. I borrowed money from people for my transport. I also took a lot of things on credit," Mabuza was quoted saying.

The gardener, who lives in Tembisa and works during the week for another employer, claims he spent R26 on transport every Sunday in order to work at Malema's house.

Malema has denied the claim.

"He has failed to report for work for a long time and now he accuses me of owing him money. If I do, he must come and collect his money. I will wait for him," Malema told the daily newspaper.

Mabuza said he had worked for Malema for more than four years.

      rbphiri - 2012-04-19 10:29

Hahaha what do you expect when you work for a guy such as Malema, I bet Malema promised him a mine.

      Squeegee - 2012-04-19 10:58

People, you are missing the point - look at the veiled threat.

      Denise - 2012-04-19 15:17

R1200 for 8 Sundays = R150pd... just another way of taking a lot from the poor and giving out just a little? Keep walking, Julius Malema

      Donovan - 2012-04-20 04:02

I don't owe him money [implied in 'he accuses me of owing him money], but if I do, he must come collect his money. Logic, much?

      Rudie - 2012-04-20 10:56

Why does he not work his own garden?

  • Peter - 2012-04-19 09:38

This is not newsworthy. News24 is getting obsessed with this Malema character. We need to move on.

      Jadon - 2012-04-19 09:53

With all due respect, this article, if it is the truth, provides a damning insight into the true character of the man. True insight as to how he treats others 'lower' than he. Don't think that he'll treat the workers at his nationalized mines any better...

      Susan - 2012-04-19 09:57

@Jadon I had many workers take me to the CCMA for money I "owed" them, some of them long after absconding - so I would not make a caracter judgement because of a claim in a newspaper; I agree that this article is a waste of time and it is becoming ever so boring.

      Jadon - 2012-04-19 09:59

you awake Susan? 'If it is the truth' I said...

      Kala - 2012-04-19 10:00

Exactly Jadon. What makes it significant is that Julias purports to be the champion of the poor, just like this gardener. Even the poor will realise he is nothing more than a champion bull schitter

      rbphiri - 2012-04-19 10:32

But look such stories are news worthy to some readers, it may make Malema supporters think twice in supporting him. If he can't even pay his own gardner how will he alleviate the youth from poverty. This story has an indepth meaning if you analyse it properly.

  • Mart - 2012-04-19 09:39

Perhaps his 'income from bribes' has dried up, this as organised crime bosses realise his usefulness is a thing of the past !

  • Annelise - 2012-04-19 09:39

Champion of the poor our Juli-ass? yeah right!

      spartanx93 - 2012-04-19 10:01

I think obese malema was inspired by the tales of Robin Hood but did not like the part when he had to give to the poor.

      Kala - 2012-04-19 10:18

      Nice one spartanx93!

  • alu.ntsandeni - 2012-04-19 09:39

hahaha.. news24 is really on Malema d*ck, how is this news?

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-19 11:51

@alu.nsandeni it's news because its bad news, that's all. if you personally want to make the headlines just do something bad, and click: cameras and all attention. Maybe you didn't learn it at school: Bad news makes good news. what it means is that it sells newspapers, which is what the shareholder owners of these papers want. So you thought news was meant to inform you that grandma is going on holiday? Who on earth wants to know about your grandma unless she's a director of a trust?

you can pay for my lawn to be cut to if you want?

      rbphiri - 2012-04-19 10:38

@ Sganja you can't even afford to pay attention, since your monotanous drivel makes no "cents" at all. Rather use that money to further your education, hopefully once you have completed your matric, you will be able to post rational comments. I bet if you dropped your stupidity your body mass would be zero, stop thinking backwards with that homosapien midget brain of yours, one more backward thought from you and you will be a stepping stone closer to the stone age.

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 10:44

Haha @ RayPhiri I'm currently doing a masters degree and working for a financial company, the only reason why my posts are considered as drivel is because they are Pro Anc. I'm not suprised anyway, you're a sell out..

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 10:46

@Mzi Thanks we can make things easier and give him R2400.

      rbphiri - 2012-04-19 11:01

Your are a sell out for misleading fellow africans with a party that only has its own interest at heart. How many service delivery protest do we get in a year? how many cases of corruption involving ANC officials plague our headlines? clearly you not aware that this is the same party that introduced the E-tolling financial molestation system, think of the trucks that transport goods on our roads; obviously the price of commodities will go up for these companies to cushion the financial burden. Think of the rural areas with open toilets, poor school facilities and lack of clinics. They vote in hopes of change, but what do they get in return for their efforts? nothing but poor service delivery. Tell me one positive thing the ANC has done this year apart from dishing out cholesterol infested chicken to manipulate easily fickled voters.

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 11:14

RayPhiri RayPhiri ...If you read my post yesterday and before, I clearly stated that I'm against the toll system and I wish government can listen to it's people. We get many service delivery protest a year I agree. I read many newspaper about Anc officials who are "corrupt" but let's apply the principle innocent till proven guilt. Open toilet saga and clinics I also agree. in all of these challenges people didn't lose hope, they don't hate Anc that's why they will continue voting for it.There are many things that the Anc have done for the people, building roads, giving waters etc, it's just that media don't like to report good things about the government.

      Stille - 2012-04-19 12:03

@sganja - masters degree in finances. Thats like saying the anc has brains. A total fallacy. Maaifoedie

      spartanx93 - 2012-04-19 13:42

@Sganja - There are lots of janitors working in financial companies. If you were seriously studying for your master degree, you would not be spewing all this waste on news24. You need some cognitive and logical thought to complete a masters. Something you really lack!

      Merven - 2012-04-19 13:44

Lol, probably a Masters Degree in talking shait.

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 14:28

Lerato, no matter how much the wage is, he is still not doing the 'right thing'. He is NOT paying! Do you get it?

Sorry, comment was made for post below.

  • Den - 2012-04-19 09:40

lovley, see how malema pays his staff, R600 per month?????????? a voice for the poor or just screwing the poor black gardener? for all you malema fans, please please explain this?

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 09:42

"Joseph Mabuza, who works on Sundays for Malema" How much must he get for a day?

      kensong.ben - 2012-04-19 09:46

      2h a week\r\n8 h a month\r\n1200 / wages \r\nNot bad ..i clock 10 hrs a day for less ..

      Lerato - 2012-04-19 10:01

Though I got issues with Malema -Point of correction – He is paid R1200 for working 4 days a month, so that’s R300 per day! Good salary I must say.

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 10:04

Thank you Lerato,It seem's many people have personal issues with Malema that they cannot realise the good things he's doing.

      Marion - 2012-04-19 10:26

@Lerato, actually the guy says he is owed R1200. Not R1200 per month. There were 8 Sundays in Feb and March so that works out at R150 per day. Still a fair wage for gardening though as far as I can figure.

      TSR01 - 2012-04-19 10:30

It is precisely as Den said - R600 per month. The gardener said he was not paid for 2 months and is owed R1,200. R1,200 / 2 = R600 per month R600 / 4x Sundays per month = R150 per Sunday. And that is for the day's gardening work. Not sure how Lerato gets to R300 a day? That would mean the gardener is owed R2,400. Then, factoring in the gardener's travel expenses @ R26 transportation per Sunday, his weekly day of work earns him a dismal R124 for Sunday's work. (Also, Malema has a big garden!!) Malema doesn't contribute towards the gardener's transport costs. And does the gardener get a meal, as is common courtesy? In my upbringing, I was taught as common decency to offer a meal to anyone working for for more than 2 hours if their working period falls within 1 hour of a mealtime, eg. breakfast / lunch. It doesn't have to be a KFC Bucket or a lavish meal, but it must at least be decent enough that it is the same as what I would eat, e.g. toast with cheese or peanut butter & syrup / jam, etc. with a cup of coffee or juice - or hot dogs, toasted sandwiches, or leftover food from the previous night's dinner (pasta, chicken & veg, etc.). Shame on Malema the Fatboy with a fat wallet, a fat empty head, and no heart.

      Lerato - 2012-04-19 10:37

@Marion thanks for the correction you are right and I agree that’s fair. The problem on this forum we got people that are just opposition for the joy of it. Personally I don’t like Malema but on this one he is doing the right thing R150 per day is fair !!!! I have just found out that to expect rational arguments on this forum is just a dream, Fin24 is better. Thanks Marion!!

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-19 12:09

@Den, of course R600 for 4 days a month. this guy worked weekends for the Youth boss. who do you want to mislead?

      Vusi - 2012-04-19 14:22

@Sganja. Aren't you feeling embarrassed immediately after claiming to have a Master's Degree in Finance, you failed to pick up on Lerato's miscalculation? R300 a day? Really?

      Gigo - 2012-04-19 14:30

@Vusi I'm not.just try to understand what I was tryng to say "It seem's many people have personal issues with Malema"

  • Michelle - 2012-04-19 10:13

Itis newsworthy if this story is true because it shows that Malema is not the champion of the people if he can't honour something as simple as paying someone for a days work considering the fortune he has accumulated through his wheeling and dealing. Haha come and fetch your money if I owe it to you, I am waiting for you (together with my henchmen) is what he forgets to add)- Ja Right!! poor Mabuza will probably never be seen again!

James,i believe u never did maths in school, the man works only sudays which has only 3 days ,

      Felix - 2012-04-19 10:43

Lerato, hint: when insulting someone's intelligence try make sure you don't write something stupid like "only sudays which has only 3 days". There are normally four Sundays per month, sometimes five.

      Merven - 2012-04-19 13:54

Lol Lerato, and you clearly never did school.

  • Marion - 2012-04-19 10:23

R150 per day. At least not slave wages. Could it be that he never worked during April (3 Sundays) because he hadn't been paid for Feb and March and that those 3 Sundays are considered to be a long time in Malema's mind?

The way I see now everyone wants to make a name for him or her at the expense of Julius Malema. Since the ANC leaders has succumb to the demand of the minority groups campaign to stop Malema I can't wait to c when the scores have been turned and our call for Mothlante to take the hot seat has been accomplished. Longlive Julius Malema Long live.

Appreciate your comment Marion, but another question is that, at R150pd, working on a sunday, this gent was legally supposed to receive double pay. that measn that accordingly to the law around minimum wage, he shoudl have AT LEAST earned +-R180 per sunday worked. He is being short-changed either way. it is so easy forthe rivh to abuse the poor, and even "revolutionaries" such as Malema, should be brought to book if he is behaving in such a manner. This gentleman is well within his rights to bring his gripes forward, and should they be resented at a CCMA hearing, will be evaluated and either found to be true or false. we cannot judge either Malema or the garndener here - but i do find it newsworthy that someone is challenging Malema on issues and concerns he has previously raised (payment to domestic workers - which under the domestic worker act, a gardener is).

      Marion - 2012-04-19 12:08

@Ruth, I didn't consider that gardeners fell under the scope of domestic workers act. Was just thinking that it probably isn't a bad wage compared to what others pay and on the basis that we don't know how many hours he works(ed) per day.

      bluzulu - 2012-04-19 12:22

Good day Marion, More ""balanced posts""... I see Nice one Mate...

  • Christian J Denyschen - 2012-04-19 10:24

every one who think this isn't news worthy you need 2 get your head checked. malema claims 2 be fighter for the poor but cant even pay the people he is fighting for haha hypocrite! take him 2 the ccma. need I even say what if this was Zille or any other white person you all would have condemn.

      Foslo - 2012-04-19 10:36

No no no! You are wrong my dear, this has nothing to do with polotics. What if the gardener is lying, after 4yrs working for him he never got a problem. Even if it was hellen it would have nothing to do with polotics, so let's just be patient

      Marion - 2012-04-19 11:03

@Foslo - exactly. For four years he never complained that he wasn't paid because he was. Now he is complaining that he hasn't been paid for two months. Probably because he wasn't.

      christian.denyschen - 2012-04-19 11:40

No no your wrong malema was living the high live the last few years that's way he got paid now he is jobless and broke can't pay his gardener. Your right this isn't politics...that's way you won't see the word politics in my previous comment, doesn't malema fight for the poor with his economic freedom marches? But let's be honest with our self here, what would the masses say if this was Zille answer me honestly now without your cANCer glasses.

Why does'nt he pay his gardener a decent wage??? Malema is a fat millionaire and he pays the poor man nothing!! Just shows what type of man he is...

      kensong.ben - 2012-04-19 10:36

150 per hour isn,t a decent wage ? Remember he works only 8hrs a month ..i clock 10 hrs per day for less n i.m no gardener ..

      cbnkambule - 2012-04-19 10:42

@ kenson Do the sum again. 1200/8 = R150 a DAY. Maximum. Where do you get your R160 per hour from? Who says he only had to work 2 hours a day?

      kensong.ben - 2012-04-19 11:25

@crackker...thx for doting the \i\ ...n as for the working hours , it just an assumption as malema place of residence is well taken care of by his many henchmen ...

  • Tumelo - 2012-04-19 10:33

I think reporter needs a new subject! Is this a matter of public intrest?

  • ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-04-19 10:34

  • Moses - 2012-04-19 10:35

I now understand why the SABC editor was suspended. You really do not know what to write anymore. We are tired of hearing about Malema, Please give us some better news.

  • Dennis - 2012-04-19 10:37

You are not the only one he owes Joseph, his builder and SARS are still waiting for money !!!

  • 21.november.dell - 2012-04-19 10:38

To the people who say this isnt news worthy, malema will be running for president soon and do you really want to vote for a man that cant even take care of his own gardener? If he cant take care of a poor man in Tembisa how will he treat the rest of SA?

  • Jacqui - 2012-04-19 10:40

What did he pay his gardener for working on Sunday?. It looks as if I am overpaying mine for the four hours he works once a week. But never mind he is such a nice chap.
