Man, 80, burns to death

Durban - An 80-year old man burnt to death in Durban's Umlazi area as he was sleeping in his shack, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain Kephu Ndlovu said the man's shack in Umlazi's F-Section caught alight in the early hours of Sunday morning and that before the blaze could be extinguished he had been burnt to death.

Police did not suspect foul play and an inquest docket had been opened.

Is believed that an unattended candle may have been responsible for the blaze.

He urged residents to take care when using candles or other flammable goods in their residences.
