Durban - A man accused of raping a jogger in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands appeared in the Howick Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said on Monday that the case against the 25-year old was postponed to Friday for a formal bail application.

The man, who was arrested last Wednesday, is accused of raping a Johannesburg businesswoman while she was jogging on Curry’s Post Road in Howick on June 13.

She had been visiting her parents in Howick over the long weekend.

South African Community Action Network head Brian Jones said last week that the woman was tackled and pulled into a ditch before being raped at knifepoint.

Hidden by the long grass, the woman could hear and see the passing traffic during the attack.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the man was arrested after an intense investigation by the Howick Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

Ramkisson-Kara said the man faces charges of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
