Man accused of raping boys drops bail bid

2012-05-23 14:28
Johannesburg - A man accused of raping six boys in Gansbaai will remain in custody after he abandoned his formal bail application in the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court, the Cape Times reported on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old appeared in court briefly on Tuesday for the third time since his arrest on April 1.

He was arrested after two 8-year-old boys pointed out his shack in the Mashakane informal settlement in Gansbaai. The boys told one of their guardians the man had raped them.

He allegedly lured six boys, aged between 7 and 12, to his shack and made them watch pornographic movies before raping them.

The trial was postponed until July 2 for further investigation as there were still statements, and a social worker's report outstanding.
