Grahamstown - A 25 year-old man accused of raping a girl aged nine, appeared in the Grahamstown High Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty.
Mbulelo Ngqobololo, (25), of Vukani, Grahamstown, was then found guilty of raping the girl at a party in the Hlalani Location on 14 July, last year.
Acting Judge Pieter van der Byl said he would sentence the accused on Friday.
According to the state's indictment, Ngqobololo, who was known to the child, attended a party on the day he raped her.
Karen Andrews, an isiXhosa-speaking clinical psychologist told the court she had assessed the child on November 16, 2007.
"She was a sweet, shy nine-year-old girl who was very trusting. The girl spoke without expression about her rape ordeal," Andrews testified.
"There were no signs of emotion. This is indicative of a pathological psychological state in relation to the rape itself."
Andrews said the girl still experienced nightmares over the event, and had regressed to the level of a three-year-old in circumstances that triggered anxiety.
