Durban - A man who claims the voices in his head made him kill a teenager with a hammer is expected to appear in the Pine Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

During Siyanda Gift Ngubane's last court appearance, the court postponed the matter to allow him to undergo mental observation.

His mother told the court that her son had attempted to commit suicide twice. Magistrate Vanitha Kirsten had asked whether Ngubane had received any previous treatment for mental illness.

Ngubane handed himself in to police on April 1 at Durban's Hillcrest police station. He then allegedly led officers to an unused manhole in the Embo Reserve. He allegedly told officers that the devil had made him do it.

It was not revealed in court who the deceased was or what his relationship with Ngubane was.
