Johannesburg - A man was arrested after a house robbery in Klerksdorp on Wednesday, North West police said.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moiloa said the 27-year-old man and an accomplice tied up a couple, robbed them of their belongings and stole their car on Wednesday morning. The man and woman untied themselves and called the police.

The robbers were confronted by North West highway officers, whom they started shooting at.

"The suspects drove on the wrong side of the road trying to escape; they lost control of the vehicle and... broke the wheel of the double-cab," said Moiloa.

The robbers abandoned the car and ran away.

One of them was arrested at a nearby house where he was hiding.

The other was still being sought.
