Durban - A man was arrested for possession of cocaine worth more than R15 000 and an undisclosed amount of cash in Phoenix, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old man was arrested on Monday outside a tavern in Stanmore, Phoenix, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Police were conducting a routine crime prevention operation when they saw a man throwing a plastic bag in a waste bin.

When questioned about the plastic bag he ran away, but was later caught.

Zwane said police found 267 pieces of rock cocaine, four bags of cocaine powder, and an undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be the proceeds of drug trade in the plastic bag.

Two other men were also arrested for possession of mandrax and dagga in Phoenix.

A 50-year-old man was found in possession of 120 straws of mandrax and a 48-year-old man was found in possession of more than 1kg of dagga.
