Durban - A man has been arrested in the Eastern Cape following the brutal double murder of an elderly Durban brother and sister, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

“A 27-old-man was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with killing two siblings in Durban on Monday,” Colonel Jay Naicker said.

The man allegedly killed Crystal Roberts, 72, in her house in Durban's Greenwood Park on Monday.

A relative found her body in the house. She had been strangled and stabbed.

"Her house was ransacked and a laptop, cellphone and vehicle were allegedly stolen."

Her brother was found dead in a Durban hotel, also on Monday.

"Preliminary reports indicate that Dennis Roberts was strangled."

Naicker said the man was found in the Eastern Cape after "intensive investigations".

Police suspect the motive for the murders was robbery.

“Police suspect the motive for the murders was robbery.” Huh! The murders were at totally different locations! Sounds more like a personal vendetta or hit to me!

this just show the lack of respect for human life in South Africa and the world.

It was definitely a hit. The robbery was more about taking items they knew we could use for identification, and money to get away. This was a person that my mother despised and was terrified of and when I spoke to her on Sunday she had voiced her fears. We didn't believe anything like this would happen and thought we had enough preventative measures in place. Unfortunately they had stolen the keys to the house after murdering my uncle so they just let themselves in - no security gates or alarms would've made a difference as they had the keys. It was pre-planned premeditated murder - no doubt about it. Hell is too good a place for these guys!
