Johannesburg - A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of security guards at a Knysna Mall, Southern Cape police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe said the man had been arrested at his home in Nekkies, in Knysna, around 20:00 on Tuesday.
Mangqwengqwe said two security guards had been walking through the parking lot at the mall on Tuesday when they were robbed of three cash boxes by three armed men.
"Before they could deposit the money into the machine, the three suspects pitched up and held them at gunpoint," he said.
"They snatched the three boxes, with an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled in a white Toyota Corolla."
During the escape, three shots were fired but no injuries were reported.
Mangqwengqwe said police were still searching for the other two robbers and a third man who was driving the getaway car.
The man was due to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court soon.
