Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Zola, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old man took the girl to a tavern on Tuesday night, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

"He got her drunk and then took her to his home and [allegedly] raped her," he said.

The parents of the girl were not at their home when the girl went to the tavern. When they returned home they could not find her.

The girl later told her parents about the rape and a case was opened.

The man was due to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon.
