Man attacked by pit bulls

Pietermaritzburg - A 36-year-old man was seriously injured when two pit bull terriers attacked him at his home in Oribi village outside Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday afternoon, paramedics said.

"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the man covered in blood and his clothes completely shredded. He had sustained multiple bite wounds throughout his body," ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said.

The man was in a serious but stable condition in Edendale Hospital.

It was not clear what caused the dogs to attack. Banks said the man had stepped out of his car and was walking towards his front door when the dogs pounced. Their owner was not known.

KwaZulu-Natal police could not immediately comment.
