Man beaten to death after rape

Johannesburg - A 29-year-old Mthatha man was beaten to death after being implicated in the rape of a young girl on Monday morning, Eastern Cape police said.
The girl was asleep in her house with her mother when he broke in and raped her shortly after midnight, said spokesperson Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela.
She alerted her mother as soon as he ran away and her mother rushed outside shouting for help.
Neighbours tracked him down and beat him and stoned him so severely that he died later in hospital.
The young girl also had to be hospitalised for her own injuries.
Police will spend Monday trying to track down those people who were part of the group that beat the man, and arrest them, said Fatyela.
