Man believed drowned at St Francis Bay
Port Elizabeth - A man is presumed drowned after being swamped by a wave at St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.
The NSRI responded to an alert from Main Beach around 14:00, said spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
The man was wading into the surf when a wave broke on top of him. He did not resurface. People on the beach saw the man disappear and called the NSRI.
An extensive sea and shore search yielded no results. The man was believed to be a resident of the area.
Police divers were alerted and the NSRI continued the search till sunset, Lambinon said.
