Johannesburg - A 39-year-old man was arrested at a clinic in Vereeniging on Saturday and will appear in court in connection with the shooting of his estranged wife and her friend in Krugersdorp, Police reported earlier.
Superintendent Milicia Bezuidenhout said the man was arrested after he had booked himself into a Vereeniging clinic for depression.
Apparently he had earlier gone to the house in Noordkruin, Krugersdorp, where his estranged wife stayed. A divorce was pending.
Bezuidenhout said the 32-year-old woman had obtained a protection order forbidding him to visit and when he arrived, she confronted him with a loaded 9mm pistol.
He disarmed her with force and, using her gun, shot her twice and then shot her male friend three times before driving away in his own car to the clinic 80km away.
The wounded man and woman were taken to hospital where their condition was reported to be satisfactory, Bezuidenhout said.
