Johannesburg - A man was buried alive and was believed to have been killed when a trench he was working in collapsed on him in Amanzimtoti on Wednesday afternoon, paramedics said.
Two other people were seriously injured in the accident, said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks in a statement.
"Paramedics found construction workers frantically trying to clear the soil away from the buried man.
"They had already managed to pull the injured man and woman from the trench, both having sustained significant lower limb trauma."
They were both in a serious condition and were stabilised at the scene before being transported to the Netcare Kingsway Hospital for further medical care.
Paramedics were working with police and rescue officers trying to free the buried man.
