Man caught 'selling' metro cop jobs

2012-07-19 07:42

Johannesburg - A North West man was arrested on Wednesday for selling jobs at the Tshwane metro police, they said.

He was arrested after a woman contacted the Tshwane metro police to find out why she had not been called for training after paying the man R6 500 for a vacancy, said spokesperson Console Tleane.

The man, 44, allegedly told the woman he was a metro officer, but this was not true, he said.

"The victim claimed that she paid the suspect R6 500 in order to secure a position as one of the students."

When she asked the man why she had not been called for training, he told her she needed to pay another R3 000.

This was the amount of money found on the man when he was arrested by the Tshwane metro police and the Hawks in Temba, North West.

Tleane said he would face charges of fraud, corruption and impersonating a police officer in the Temba Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

He said there was no fee for metro police training.

"The recruitment process is open and transparent, and should therefore not be contaminated by elements purporting to be metro police officers."

  • Henry - 2012-07-19 08:20

It is nothing new. The corruption is there, even in our national police. Some women are requested for sexual favors in return for the jobs. Well done for the catching of that man. I wish it could be a lesson even to other corrupt elements in our national authority. The society has heard enough of corruption within our authorities.

  • lorrainesuh - 2012-07-19 08:22

Corrupt this, corrupt that! Have you all even READ the article before commenting or just the headlines or first paragraph? The man is NOT a police officer!! He posed as one. Could the lady in question not just go to her nearest police station to get the forms?

      Barefoot - 2012-07-19 08:34

Welcome to news24 where we comment without reading because we know so much

I have been waiting for this to blow. I know of a few people who also paid for this job. until today they are still waiting to be called for training but people who followed the right channel have already started and my cousin is one of them. She says that everyday since they have started there's a new person joining them out of the blue, some are very old people who are not in the age range which was required, some have not even been to the physical assessment. its very sad how thingz are done.

      zimbobwe.mugabe - 2012-07-19 09:40

And your cousin keep quite about this??? I wonder how much she paid, anyway Welcome to the Republic of Bananaland!!!

Not unsual to pay for a job! A women was at a car dealership buyinga new car. She had taken all the neccessary docs along - including a pay slip. The salesperson saw the payslip and suggested that she could afford the better car than the chosen model. No she said. You dont understand - I have to pay my boss Rxk/month for her job!

  • Chris - 2012-07-19 09:34

She ASS-umed that this was the Metro police way of doing things: everything happens in this corrupt manner. That explains why Metro cops demand bribes- it is a return on their investment!
