Johannesburg - A North West man was arrested on Wednesday for selling jobs at the Tshwane metro police, they said.

He was arrested after a woman contacted the Tshwane metro police to find out why she had not been called for training after paying the man R6 500 for a vacancy, said spokesperson Console Tleane.

The man, 44, allegedly told the woman he was a metro officer, but this was not true, he said.

"The victim claimed that she paid the suspect R6 500 in order to secure a position as one of the students."

When she asked the man why she had not been called for training, he told her she needed to pay another R3 000.

This was the amount of money found on the man when he was arrested by the Tshwane metro police and the Hawks in Temba, North West.

Tleane said he would face charges of fraud, corruption and impersonating a police officer in the Temba Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

He said there was no fee for metro police training.

"The recruitment process is open and transparent, and should therefore not be contaminated by elements purporting to be metro police officers."
