Johannesburg - A man was caught with cocaine with an estimated street value of R19m in Beaufort West on Thursday, Western Cape police said.

Police stopped and searched a yellow Volvo bus near a garage in the town shortly after 02:00, Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

Police sniffer dogs found a black bag in the luggage compartment. When police asked for the owner of the bag, one man tried to run away.

He was arrested and asked to open the bag. Inside police found several kilograms of cocaine.

In a separate incident police recovered dagga with a street value of R60 000 after they stopped and searched a cream-coloured Toyota Cressida on Wednesday evening.

Two men, aged 26 and 26, were arrested when six bags of dagga weighing 60kg were found.

All three men were expected to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The scary thing is, most cases these arrests are a decoy, setup by the traffickers themselves, in order to get the real big stuff transported - 2011-01-21 06:01

I think thats on planes btw. R19M sounds like a huge decoy ^^

      R19M is REALLY huge decoy......

Thanks Beverley, I though I was the only one getting frustrated. Looks like the reporters came from the same school as the politicians. The other article this morning said the bodies were only removed from the house after they died

      Estelle - 2011-01-21 07:01

Good thing they were not dead bodies Estelle

      Beverley - 2011-01-21 07:01

@ noitall - LOL - that is what makess the articles so contradicting sometimes - the same standards indeed

      Beverley - 2011-01-21 07:11

@ noitall - this is another one - "road uses" not "road users" - - LOL

So you hijack the comments to tell us what we already know. You know what they mean, move on already.

      Beverley - 2011-01-21 08:58

@ Pointblank - merely stating the obvious that it is happening more often than less. Hope you have a fantastic day as well!

      Eric West - 2011-01-21 10:16

@ Beverley - not only that, but they talk about "Gauteng Metro police". WTF are "Gauteng metro police officers"? The only Metro Police in Gauteng are in Joburg, Ekhuruleni and Pretoria and they would not be found on the N12 near Potch. Maybe these are Gauteng Provincial Traffic officers?

    Aged 26 and 26????

      Cussy - 2011-01-21 10:17

I had a good chuckle at that too. I don't know why the moron couldn't have just written "both aged 26". I gues if he had, I wouldn't have been lauging.

      Jules - 2011-01-21 10:45

Seems our reporters have no idea how to write anymore.... why not both aged 26!!!!! What a joke!

      4daluvofSA - 2011-01-21 11:04

No he was aged 26 and was a member of the "26" gang from Westville prison! hahaha...

  • YasButIDunno - 2011-01-21 08:15

I don't believe it... the cops in Beaufort West actually doing something other than speed trapping? NO WAY!!!! Next we'll be hearing about a thief being caught in Potch!!!! LOL

      Picasso - 2011-01-21 08:34

They did caught thieves just outside of Potch, Metro thieves.

Dagga at R1000/kg?! Can I get these guys' number please?

  • Nic - 2011-01-21 10:06

Ya and so if its about R300/g for cocaine on the street that would mean the black bag contained at least 60 kg if it were R19 000 000 worth?? Doubt one guy would have been able to carry that in one black bag. Even if it were uncut in its purest form I dont see how a few kg as reported would be R19 000 000 worth...I might be wrong, but I never get how they work out the estimates of the value of drugs they conviscate...

  • ZACKIE - 2011-01-21 12:28

must have been a big bag?
