Durban - A 56-year-old man appeared briefly in the Empangeni magistrate's court on Tuesday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Ndabayakhe, KwaZulu-Natal, said police on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Jabulani Mdletshe said Johannes Hlomangaye Dlamini was arrested last Friday.
Dlamini apparently called a group of children into his house where he showed them some toys in which the victim showed an interest.
"It is alleged that Dlamini ordered other children to leave and kept the victim inside his home. He allegedly promised her toys and (then) raped her," said Mdletshe.
The case was remanded and the next appearance date was unknown, said Mdletshe.
