Johannesburg - The man accused of raping a 6-year-old
girl and murdering his girlfriend has been found guilty in the Kwazulu-Natal
High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
Gerald Rosselloty, who defended himself claiming his
State-appointed counsel was incompetent and did not follow his instructions,
would be sentenced on Wednesday.
Rosselloty was convicted of raping the girl in 2006 and
murdering his girlfriend Nokwazi Ntuli on 17 April 2010.
He was also found guilty of arson, having set fire to the
simplex where he murdered Ntuli.
Ntuli's burnt body was found on a mattress 2km from where
Rosselloty was staying at the time.
Judge Rishi Seegobin said Rosselloty was a perverted
liar, as he tried to deceive the court and had not set out a defence, but
rather tried to counter evidence as it was presented.
He said evidence regarding the rape of the 6-year-old
girl pointed to Rosselloty, 40.
Prosecutor Dorian Paver said Rosselloty's previous
convictions would militate against any finding that he had prospects of
rehabilitation.
Rosselloty had previously been convicted of rape and
robbery in 1993, possession of drugs in 2002, drunk driving in 2004, and two
counts of aggravated assault in 2005.
Rosselloty told Seegobin alcohol had changed his nature.
