Malalane - An Mpumalanga man is reported to have assaulted his wife and then
accidentally killed himself when he raced off in his bakkie and crashed.
The 32-year-old man drove his Toyota Hilux bakkie head-on into a truck on the
N4 highway at Matsulu, near Malalane, at about 15:00 on Monday afternoon.
"The bakkie burst into flames and the driver burnt to death," said
Matsulu police spokesperson Constable Edith Khumalo.
She said the truck driver sustained minor injuries.
She said police were investigating a case of culpable homicide, but not one
relating to the assault of the man's wife, as the assault case had not been
reported to the police.
“No assault case has been laid with us, so we are just taking the accident as
it is," she said.
