Johannesburg - A man died and another was critically injured when they were hit by a train at the Klaarwater train station near Mariannhill on Saturday, Kwazulu-Natal paramedics said.

"When paramedics arrived on scene, sadly the one man estimated to be about 30 years old had already succumbed to his injuries," said Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie.

"Another man also estimated to be about 30-years-old was in a critical condition."

The injured man was airlifted to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital for treatment.
