2012-08-08 10:23

Cape Town - A man who was injured when a bus crashed into his Khayelitsha shack in Cape Town has died, according to a report on Wednesday.

The Cape Times reported that Daniel Sass, 52, died in the Tygerberg hospital on Tuesday morning of head, neck and spinal injuries.

A Golden Arrow bus veered off the Mew Way bridge after being stoned by protesters, and crashed into several shacks on Friday night.

The bus driver, Sandile Hoko, was killed and about 25 people were injured.

Sass's daughter Thembeka Lamont told the newspaper she was now an orphan.

"Who will look after us? All they have caused is pain, and not just for me, but for all who have been affected," she said.

"If people want houses, services or anything, why not go to the relevant authority offices and tell them their needs?"

"If people want houses, services or anything, why not go to the relevant authority offices and tell them their needs?" - Because little dear, it's in some of these peoples nature to cause destruction. They know only one way and that is the uncivilized, brutal animal way of doing things. A lot of blacks are not like this, but it's up to them to teach the other the right way of doing things.

How terribly sad! hope they see that their protesting comes with a cost... the cost of lives! but it seems like they dont even care about it, because they are planning another protest this time in Cape Town... how many ppl will get hurt there?

    Thank you ANCYL!

Shouldve killed a few of the protestors. That will teach them!!!

The ANCYL is not protesting against poor service delivery, they are protesting against DA rule in the Western Cape. And this incident proves why the DA rules, and not the ANC.

i onced stayed in that area but i had one mindset,to change my life not to wait to the government for free99...yeah i admit government has fail us,but those young people have failed themselves by not taking extra effort..

This is clearly a criminal offence, and should be treated as a murder or culpable homicide. I do not care if these people are from the ANC youth league, the DA or even Freedom Front. You can not just stone vehicles / buses and cause death, and get a way with it.

Funny how the un-affected make fun of the affected, we are talking two people's death and 25 injured...yet some delight to this fact. I take it as racism expression...if your fellow african (if u r african as u claim for tenders) is hurt, feel for them - or at least pretend to care. May the defunct's soul rest in peace and those in hospital recover, and for the orphans due to this - may God's shadow protect you and strenghen you.

How do we conclude that the cup is full = How do we declare that ANC failed? What was the apartheid government measured against for the world to conclude that it was a bad government? How long did it take for the world to see? Reasons for my stupid question: - ANC have been in power for less than 20 years yet it is compared to the past government that ruled for more than 20 years. If things were going my way - i would urge africans to put themselves into ANC leaders shoes. Imagine yourself earning R136k per annum and yet dealing with Rmillions per annum. And you have 5 years in the office, apply common sense - after 5 years you're back to the location and possibly with no salary. Let logic kick in - bear in mind that none of the "samaritans" will care to even give you a job after 5 years.

You can study however you wish in u 5 year term - once you're done studying, you will still be regarded as someone with no experience unless ANC re-deploy you. So Africans - let's stop moarning because the minority moarns, let's celebrate the freedom ANC brought us. And respect the fact that there's now electricity and water in most areas where it was never there before; no one availed them but ANC. Yes - we may not all be happy. But i am happy where i am myself, but that doesn't mean the unhappy must be silent - the ony way we get what we want is through struggle (that's how we got the country back, it worked before - some think it works still). So let them do what they believe in. If there's another method other than that one - let those graduate be hired straight to positions to substitute managers with Grade 2-8 and see who will shout first.

Lekgotla - You are not convincing anyone.

"after being stoned by protesters" - When has this become the accepted way of protesting? I ask because we are becoming more and more complacent with the idea it seems. Protesting != Rioting!!!!

My condolences to Sass's daughter. Its true that the nature of our fellow African people is only destruction. WHY???? Someone in another article say that you find a ten year old child attending a a violent and destructive of property demostration, What education he or she is going to get from the strike at that age?? Only one way that if you want to be heard just destroy everything the government had built!! That is what they think as they grow up. NOW HERE ARE THE RESULTS,bus crashes on the shacks.. On the other hand I wish if there could be something to be done from the authorities concerning where people must built shacks or houses. If you take a train and go to Side B in Kayatlitsha, truely if an vehicle veered of the road it will only land on top of a bed of someone. One meter or so separates houses from the road. People its a life hazard. There are so many open land why the government do not make these open land a residential area if it is overcrowding that make people to built just off the roads??? ANC $ DA THAT IS YOUR CALL!!!

the police need to become more strict, or the country needs to implement the death penalty, so that people wont try these kind of acts. and the police should you rubber bullets or something, i think real bullets will do just fine tho. it aint right to bad the protestors dont have internet to read these post.
