Man dies after parachute fails
Johannesburg - A 54-year-old sky diver died after his parachute failed to open in Sandton, Gauteng, on Saturday, said ER24.
Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the man plummeted to the ground in a parking lot at a rugby festival held in the northern Johannesburg suburb.
It was understood that the man had difficulty with his parachute before he fell to the ground.
Paramedics found him lying between two cars in a parking lot after shocked bystanders on the scene called emergency services.
"Due to the severity of the man's injuries, paramedics had to place him on life support."
"An emergency helicopter was called in to fly the man to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment," Vermaak said. But the man later died as a result of his injuries.
