Johannesburg - A Clanwilliam man burnt died in a fire which has been raging in the Cederberg, in the Western Cape, for more than a week, SABC radio news reported on Friday.

Christo Fourie's body was found near his vehicle on Thursday. He was reported missing on Wednesday.

Fourie, 59, who worked as a supervisor at a construction company and was a retired bank manager, was apparently trapped in the blaze.

The exact reasons for his death would be determined in an autopsy, but the police's André Traut confirmed to Die Burger that he died in the fire.

West Coast district municipality fire chief Bertus Senekal said lightning sparked the fire, which destroyed five houses and more than 20 000ha of fynbos.
