Johannesburg - A man died and another was critically injured when their bakkie rolled in Heidelberg on Friday night, said paramedics.

The driver was thought to have lost control of the vehicle while approaching a railway bridge, said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks.

He and his passenger were thrown from the vehicle, he said.

One of them died on the scene. The other was critically injured and was taken to a nearby private hospital.

Out of control drivers are symptomatic of our attitudes to our and others lives. The desire to dominate, be ahead, be in the right, what I want is all that counts because I rule. I totally rock. A few minutes of rush, who cares whom we crush. Fools should get out of my way because I rock and you suck. Some people take drugs, others drink, many do all of that and then decide they also own the road. We have a mammoth mental-health crisis in this country. We have no self-control nor do we see a reason to have to.
