Johannesburg - A man was shot dead in eastern Pretoria and another injured in separate armed robberies that took place only two kilometres from one another, and within the space of an hour, police said on Saturday.
"We are investigating the possibility that the same suspects are involved in both incidents" said police spokesperson Captain Lucas Sithole.
Paramedics responded to the first of the Friday evening incidents at a housing complex in Old Fort Road in Lynnwood and the second in Dawn Street in the suburb.
Netcare spokesperson Nick Dollman said the Dawn Street incident saw a woman find her husband dead after she had emerged from a room she had locked herself into having seen a robber in her house.
Her husband was in his early sixties.
Meanwhile, in the Old Fort Road complex robbery, intruders shot a 64-year-old man in the chest.
His family rushed him to the Wilgers hospital in Pretoria.
"He was in a serious condition" said Dollman.
The robbers stole jewellery, a cell phone and a camera.
Police are investigating a cases of murder, attempted murder and of robbery related to both incidents.
