Man dies in fire

Bethlehem - A 36-year-old man from Frankfort in the Free State died on Saturday morning when his home caught fire, a police spokesperson reported.

Constable Christopher Mophiring said Jantjie Mokoena, from Namahadi township near Frankfort, was found dead after his makeshift home burnt down just after midnight.

Neighbours saw the fire, said Mophiring, but were unable to put out the flames. The shack burnt out completely, and Jantjies' charred body was found inside.

He had been alone in the shack.

The cause of the fire was not known, said Mophiring.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
