2012-04-30 13:49

Johannesburg - A man has been stabbed to death in Zola, Soweto, allegedly by someone harassing his girlfriend, Gauteng police said on Monday.

"Last night [Sunday] a man was walking with his girlfriend in Zola when they met an unknown man who started troubling the girlfriend," Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

"Her boyfriend was trying to protect her when the unknown man took out a knife and stabbed the boyfriend in the upper body. The boyfriend, in his 30s, died on the scene."

The couple had been walking to a 24-hour shop to buy food at around 23:00.

Police are looking for the knifeman.

The prez must be made to answer for these crimes. They have happened on his watch. Not once has he raised the issue of crime and undertaken to something about it. Perhaps he wants them to target whites and bump them all off.

  • Ted - 2012-04-30 17:03

And some golf-ball brained fools on this same forum always say we complain too much about crime in the homeland? Only in the wild do you get someone walking up to you to GET your girlfriend. Something like he believes the girl is some commodity to fight for. No respect for life, for women, and definitely nothing good to live for. These criminals need a clear deterrent- an eye for an eye. We talk of how bad the death sentence is because we are still alive!

"A nation that has no respect for human life has no future" - so said a wise sage/anon some time ago. RIP poor fellow and sympathies to the families. In this safe country of ours we are proving that point quite adequately. On another track - the biblical quote that the "love of money is the root of all evil" - pray tell who is showing this love of money right now? Is it not those in power? Why can't they focus the same amount of energy on crime as they do on accumulating wealth?

  • maseratifittipaldi - 2012-05-02 19:17

And do you know how our government reacts to this? They have bodyguards. Bulletproof motorcars. They build walls around their houses. Private security. CCTV systems. They run away and visit other countries. Fly all over the show. Backup of backups. Travel in convoys. They build themselves bunkers. They say S.A. is safe. While you, walking to the 24-hour shop to buy yourself something to eat - on your way to hand this useless government another 14% of your spend - gets knifed by an enemy within our borders because of the government's ineptitude.

  • Jan - 2012-05-03 07:14

lets give a hand to our government for protecting its people. RIP

  • marius.dumas - 2012-05-15 12:39

Men are such fools. In this "gender equal" society men still believe it is their job to sacrifice their lives for a woman to be considered a man. Woman's life is still regarded as worth more. If he just stop trying to be the hero, they both might have lived now.

      Leoni - 2012-05-28 15:48

No life is worth more than another Marius! However, I teach my two young sons to open a door for a lady, let a lady enter first, and just general small courtesies (irrespective of her age, colour or social standing) and surely this young man's mother taught him the same thing... unfortunately this man paid with his life for decency... So many males so few MEN left in this world

      marius.dumas - 2012-05-29 16:00

Leoni We are equal it’s not a man’s job to put a lady first, anymore than it is a ladies job to do the mans washing and cleaning. I don’t believe in feminist double standards. It can also not be expected of a man to sacrifice his life for a woman. It would be hypocritical to assume her life is worth more than his. I don’t know any women who would sacrifice her life to save that of a man. So it goes both ways and so it should. Modern women want their bread buttered on both sides. Women want advantages of old traditions and the advantages of the modern world depending on where they can benefit the most. If we consider each other equal, then we are equal for better and worse and only a hypocrite will differ. expecting a man to put a lady first, saying its mans job to protect a woman, a mans job to support the woman, mans job to carry her things. Those stereotyped roles are gone with the traditional patriarchal system that women abolished in exchange for equality, and soon your sons will realise that old traditions and modern society don’t mix because women will not return the favour. If women wanted to be treated as equal then treat them as equal on all grounds, like it or not. With so few real WOMEN and so many females, who of them are qualified to define what real MEN are supposed to be.
