Man dies trying to save iguana

Johannesburg - A 25-year-old worker in the Lowveld Botanical Gardens in Mpumalanga drowned in the Crocodile River after trying to save an iguana, Beeld newspaper reported on Friday.

The man had wanted to help the iguana which was stuck between two rocks on Wednesday. He lost his balance and fell into the river.

Despite attempts by his colleagues to help him, he was swept away over a 15-metre waterfall and disappeared into the whirlpool below the falls.

Police divers found his body on Thursday.
