Man dismembered by train in Johannesburg

2012-02-04 13:49

Johannesburg - A security guard was killed and dismembered by a train at Tooronga train station on Saturday morning, said Johannesburg emergency management services.

The security guard, between 35 and 40 years of age, was waiting on the platform around 06:00 when he was hit by the train, said spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

"It is believed he was going to Germiston on the way to work. He was unfortunately dismembered by the train and died on the scene," said Mulaudzi.

Mulaudzi appealed to the public to take extreme care when standing on platforms, and to be aware of arriving trains and the direction they come from.

Wow! Was he waiting on the platform? I thought platforms were the right place to wait for trains. How come he was hit by one then? Sad. Does not make sense.

There is a yellow line marking where one should stand to avoid being hit by a train- 'm not sure about the colour

Does not make sense, platforms are where one waits on. He could of been pushed into it. Security cameras should be checked.

Rail tracks are for trains and platforms for people- SUMTING WONG! as my chinese friends would say

  • Adrian - 2012-02-04 18:14

From the facts we can easily deduct that this was a rogue train with a grudge against security guards. It leaped up onto the platform, donnered the guard and returned meekly to the rails to continue it's daily routine. African reporting, the truth has to be imagined, it's a sensitive thing.

I wonder what Mulautzi would say if he ever witnessed something I saw one day on my way to Davyton to drop off one of my workers. A train [presumably on its way from JHB station to Thembisa]was crusing at about 7o K per H was filled OVER ITS BRIMS with people. When I say over its brims I mean people ware hanging, clawing standing and lying all over on the OUTSIDE of the train compartments on/outside this fast moving machine. While it was impossible to count the people on the outside I can assure you that there must have been between 150 and 200 people AT LEAST. I could not believe my eyes but when I told other people about this I was surprised to to learn that it was not in fact an illusion I had but that this kind of phenomanen happens quite often. I often wonder how this kind of thing can be allowed and if this type of illegal actions get any attention what so ever. So NO! I am not surprised that this poor /brave fellow was dismembered at the station. For all we know he was trying to find his feet somewhere on the outside of a compartment when it happened.
